Crystal habits- Typically forms rhombohedral crystals (slanted boxes/cubes) with perfect rhombohedral cleavage in three directions.
Hardness- 3 on the MOHs scale
Rock formation- precipitates from calcium and carbonate rich aqueous solutions in sedimentary environments (limestone and dolomite),hydrothermal veins and evaporite deposits.
Found inside cavities and veins running through basalt,limestone or marble.
