citrine is a yellow to orange variety of quartz. It is a durable gemstone that measures 7 on the MOHs scale making it highly resistant to everyday wear and scratching.
Mineral class: Tectosilicate (silica group)
Crystal system: Trigonal
Rock formation: Natural citrine is formed in geological cavities, primarily within igneous rocks like granite and pegmatites, as well as in hydrothermal veins. As molten magma cools and solidifies deep within the earths crust, it creates fractures and gas pockets. Silica rich fluids containing dissolved quartz and iron pass through these voids, crystallizing as the temperature and pressure decrease.
