Dendritic Psilomelane (commonly referred to scientifically as a mixture primarily composed of romanechite and other manganese oxides) is a monoclinic manganese oxide.

Crystal system- Monoclinic (though it rarely forms discrete macro-crystals, typically occurring as microcry, massive, or Botryoidal aggregates).
Mineral class- Oxide
Rock formation:
Rock setting-found typically as fracture fillings, surface coatings,or secondary dendrites inside sedimentary and low-temperature rocks such as limestone, sandstone and shales, as well as within weathered hydrothermal replacement deposits.
Formation process- The fern like dendritic patterns are not fossilized plants. Instead, they form via low-temperature aqueous fluids (water) rich in dissolved manganese moving through microscopic cracks and fissures inside sedimentary the host rock. As the water evaporates or chemical conditions change, manganese oxides precipitate out in a fractal ,tree like crystal habit along the bedding planes or fracture surfaces.
Hardness-5-6 on the MOHs scale.
