Epidote and Quartz are prominent, distinct minerals that frequently occur together in nature. Despite their frequent association, they possess completely different crystal systems, mineral classes and dominant rock formations.

Epidote-
Crystal system: Monoclinic
Mineral class: Sorosilicate
Rock formation: It most commonly forms in metamorphic rocks (like schist and marble) or as a result of hydrothermal alteration in mafic igneous rock like basalt.
Hardness-6-7 on the MOHs scale

Quartz-
Crystal system: Trigonal
Mineral class: Tectosilicate
Rock formation: Quartz is an incredibly abundant mineral that makes up much of the earths continental crust. It is a primary constituent of igneous rock like granite, sedimentary rocks like sandstone and metamorphic rock like quartzite. In many instances hot silica rich hydrothermal fluids deposit quartz veins alongside other minerals like epidote.
Hardness- 7 on the MOHs scale
