Labradorite is a captivating plagioclase feldspar mineral famous for its labradoresecence,a shimmering iridescence caused by light reflecting off internal microscopic layers.
Crystal system: triclinic ( its crystals axes are of unequal lengths and intersect at oblique angles)
Mineral class: tectosilicate
Rock formation: forms in mafic igneous rocks (e.basalt gabbro and norite) and massive anorthosite interusions. It crystallizes deep underground as magma cools very slowly a process that enables the separation of microscopic internal mineral layers.
Hardness: 6-6.5 on the MOHs scale
