Mimetite and it’s rare variety campylite are highly sought after secondary lead mineral. Both share the same fundamental mineralogy and crystal structure but differ in their distinct external shape and colour.

Rock settings: These minerals do not form their own distinct rock types, instead the act as localized accessory or secondary minerals inside existing host rocks.

Environmental- They are found in the oxidized weathered upper zones of hydrothermal lead and silver deposits. They form when primary sulfide minerals like galena under go heavy oxidation and weathering in the presence of arsenic bearing solutions.
