Perisphinctes is an extinct genus of marine cephalopods known as ammonites, living during the middle and late Jurassic epochs (roughly 174 to 145 million years ago). Their tightly coiled spiraled shells feature distinct, sharp side ribs, making them valuable index fossils for dating Jurassic rock layers globally.
They are more closely related to modern octopuses, squid and cuttlefish then to modern nautiluses or snails.
