Phlogopite is a magnesium rich mineral in the mica group. It typically forms in contact metamorphic marbles and specific silica poor ultramafic igneous rocks.
Mineral class- silicates
Crystal system-monoclinic
Rock formation-
Contact metamorphism: it commonly crystallizes in metamorphosed silica rich dolomitic marbles and limestones, often associated with minerals like diopside, spinel and Grossular garnet.
Ultramafic and alkaline igneous rocks: As a primary magmatic mineral, phlogopite forms at great depths and high vapour pressures. It appears as phenocrysts or within the ground mass in rocks like kimberlites, lamproites and carbonatites.
