Smithsonite and dolomite are both carbonate minerals often found together in geological setting,particularly oxidized zinc ore deposits. Where they share similar symmetry but possess different chemical compositions and distinct modes of formation.
Both minerals are trigonal in the crystal system.
Smithsonite is a hardness of 4.0-4.5 and dolomite hardness is 3.5-4.0
