Vanadinite is a dense lead chlorovanadate mineral.it forms as a secondary deposit via the oxidation of primary lead ores like galena in arid climates.
Crystal system- hexagonal
Mineral class- phosphate, alternate and vanadate class. Specifically it belongs to the apatite group of minerals.
Rock formation- vanadinite is a secondary mineral meaning it forms through the alteration of pre-existing materials rather than directly from magmatic melts.
It typically develops in the oxidized zones of lead bearing ore deposits.
Its formation requires an arid or semi arid climate. Groundwater rich in oxygen primary lead minerals like galena and a source of vanadium (often leached from surrounding rocks or silicates.
Because of how it is formed you will find it alongside other secondary minerals e.g Baryte,Wulfenite Mimetite Cerussite and iron oxides.
Vanadinite hardness is 3-4 on the MOHs scale.
