Variscite is a relatively rare hydrated aluminium phosphate mineral. It has a striking apple-green to bluish Green colour, and is a semiprecious gemstone.
Variscite belongs to orthorhombic crystal system. It rarely forms visibly crystals,instead it occurs primarily as fine grained microcrystalline masses,crusts or nodules filling cavities and fractures.
It is a secondary mineral, and forms near the earths surface when circulating,phosphate rich groundwater interacts with aluminium rich rocks,such as recited sandstone.
It is phosphate in the mineral class and its hardness is 3.5-4.5 on the MOHs scale.
